While some are known for causing mayhem here and there around the country, others are known to keep their activities very low and try as much as possible not to get involved in any trouble. Most secret cults today particularly in Tertiary institutions in Nigeria started at the University College Ibadan (USI) in 1953. The very first Confraternity formed at UCI was the Pyrate Confraternity formed by six students named Wole Soyinka, Aig-Imoukhuede, Pius Olegbe, Ralph Opara, Nat Oyelola and Olumuyiwa Awe. The confraternity was formed primarily to abolish convention, to revive the age of chivalry, and to end tribalism and elitism. We cannot deny the fact that their intentions were not violence targeted. But the case is rather unfortunate today for some of the confraternities popularly called 'cult groups...
